One of Paris’ famed boulangeries is getting in the Olympic spirit with a special bread with the images of the Olympic Rings and the words ‘Paris 2024’ baked right into the crust.

The owner and creator of the Du Pain et des Idees bakery that is selling the Olympic bread, Christophe Vasseur, said it isn’t about driving sales, but more just to bring a bit of joy to customers with the kickoff to the Summer Games just days away.

“They don’t buy it because there is ‘2024 Olympics’ on it, but yeah, it’s just putting the fun in – let’s make it happy. As it should be,” Vasseur said.

The writing on the bread is not the only thing Olympic about Vasseur’s ‘pain des amis’ which features the unique print.

A few days before the opening ceremony, the Olympic torch made its way around Essonne, south of Paris.

The torch was carried by dozens of participants, including Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The Olympics in the French capital will see several firsts, with an opening ceremony on barges along the river

Seine instead of the traditional ceremony in an Olympic stadium.

The Games will also incorporate the city's major landmarks, including the Eiffel tower, into the competitions, many of which will be staged in urban areas across the city.

It will also be the first Olympics to have gender parity, with equal numbers of men and women participating.

More than 10,500 athletes representing 206 national Olympic Committees will compete at the 16-day multi- sports event, 100 years since the last time the French capital staged them, with more than 30,000 security officers on duty.
