A small plane fell in a park in Guayaquil, killing two people who were on board and seriously injuring the pilot, reported the mayor of that Ecuadorian port, Cynthia Viteri.

"Unfortunately, two people died. The pilot is injured," the official told the press, specifying that the deceased "came with him (the aviator)."

The pilot was seriously injured, according to the Corporation for Citizen Security of Guayaquil, in charge of the local municipality.

Viteri, who at the time of the accident was two blocks from the accident site, reported that the device covered the route between the ports of Manta and Guayaquil.

"The pilot searched, because we could see where to crash. He was almost zigzagging in the air, he searched where to crash and he found a park, and he crashed in the park so as not to affect the house of any of the people who are here and not lose more lives," added the mayor.

Viteri maintained that "it is a tragedy where someone who had expertise and prevented more people from dying."

The mayor of Guayaquil, Cynthia Viteri, reported, after explaining that she had witnessed how the plane crashed, that there were two dead and one injured, who had been transferred to a health centre.

The emergency services have moved to the scene, while they are currently restoring the electrical system because the light aircraft dragged with it the wires of the power transformers.
