Yemenis Rally in Support of Gaza Amid Houthi Ship Attacks
Despite heavy rain and floods, thousands of Yemenis, mostly Houthi supporters, gathered in Yemen’s capital in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Protesters held up Palestinian and Yemen flags and chanted slogans against the United States and Israel.
Yemen's Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said that the group had targeted the Sounion oil tanker and the SW North Wind I vessel in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The Greek-flagged Sounion oil tanker carrying 150,000 tonnes of crude was evacuated by its crew after the attack and now poses an environmental hazard, the EU's Red Sea naval mission "Aspides" said.
The Houthi spokesman went on to detail the second attack, saying, "The other operation targeted the ship SW North Wind I, also belonging to a company dealing with the Israeli enemy and violating the decision to ban entry into the ports of occupied Palestine. It was hit directly and accurately while sailing in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea."
The Yemeni military frequently targets Israeli-affiliated ships and vessels bound for Israel in the Red Sea.
Yemen said the operations are in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The Yemeni forces have also conducted a series of operations against American and British vessels in response to deadly attacks by the US and the UK against their country.
The Israeli regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has so far killed at least 40,265 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 93,000 others. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under rubble.
Since the onset of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, the Yemeni forces have carried out scores of operations in support of the war-hit Gazans, striking targets throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to targeting Israeli ships or vessels heading towards ports in the occupied territories.
