French Open pays tribute to Nadal

The French Open opened with an emotional tribute to Rafael Nadal, who has left an indelible mark on the tournament over his illustrious career. The event commemorated the 20th anniversary of Nadal's first appearance at Roland Garros, where he faced Xavier Malisse in 2003. As a testament to his legacy, organizers unveiled a permanent tribute featuring Nadal's footprint set into the clay of Court Philippe Chatrier, honoring the 14-time champion who retired from professional tennis in November 2024.

The stands were filled with fans wearing "Merci Rafa" T-shirts, creating a vibrant display of support. High above, a mosaic of fans formed the word "RAFA" surrounded by hearts and the characters "14 RG." Dressed in a sleek black suit, Nadal received a standing ovation as he watched a short film chronicling his journey at the French Open, visibly moved as tears streamed down his face during a three-minute applause.

Nadal was later joined on the court by fellow tennis legends Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Roger Federer, reuniting the famous "Big Four" for a final moment together. The camaraderie was palpable as they exchanged glances and words, with Nadal expressing gratitude for their rivalry and friendship.
