Central America can host more FIFA youth tournaments, says Infantino
FIFA President Gianni Infantino opened up the possibility that Costa Rica could host the World Cup in the highest male or female category in the future.
At a press conference ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final held in this Central American country, the international football boss said he was pleased with the excellent organisation seen during the women’s fair and praised the development he sees in the country so there is no doubt that in the future Tikos may be host to the most important football competition on the planet.
“I suppose that Costa Rica is not that far away from hosting a major World Cup, perhaps with other countries, men or women.. We saw it in this Women’s U20 World Cup, which is a category below the major World Cup. what this country has to offer with very nice full stadiums, friendly people, infrastructure and hotels”, he pointed out.
As you know, the 2026 World Cup will be hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States, so in the coming years, Infantino recommends that Costa Rica focus on hosting the largest women’s world championship or the youth men’s world championship. Good, make a proposal to organise a major world championship in the men’s section, but together with other neighbouring countries.
“I suppose that having more men’s, women’s youth or adult activities should be an ambition in Costa Rica, possibly with countries close to Costa Rica in Central or South America,” he said.
