Iran marks U.S. embassy seizure anniversary in Tehran
Iranians rallied in Tehran to mark the 45th anniversary of the U.S. embassy seizure in the city, as relations between Iran and the United States strain over Israel's war in Gaza.
Rally-goers cheered as American and Israeli flags were burnt on the street, while a crowd marched with anti-U.S. banners alongside Iranian flags and images of the late General Soleimani.
Speaking on stage at the event, Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander General Salami described the U.S. and Israel as acting like "collapsing regimes" in regards to the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
Students who had joined the rally also reflected on direct clashes between Israel and Iran, stating they would stand by Iran during future retaliatory strikes following Israeli strikes on Iranian military targets on Oct. 26.
The strikes came after Oct 1. Iranian missile attack on Israel.
In 1979, Radical students cemented Iran's Islamic Revolution by storming the US embassy soon after the fall of the U.S.-backed Shah, and 52 Americans were held hostage there for 444 days.
They later published documents proving that the compound was indeed engaged in plans and measures to overthrow the Islamic Republic.
The occasion has then turned into a symbol of resistance and fierce fight against arrogant powers, marking the Iranian students’ vigilance in dealing with Washington’s threats.
During a meeting with a group of Iranian students, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned the US and Israel that they will definitely receive a “teeth-breaking” response for what they are doing against Iran and the resistance front.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that Israel, as well as the United States, will receive a crushing response for what they do against his country.
"The enemies, whether the Zionist regime or the United States of America, will definitely receive a crushing response to what they are doing to Iran, the Iranian people, and the resistance front," He said.
