Amazon cargo jet crashes at Miami airport

An Amazon Prime Air cargo jet has crashed at Miami International Airport, resulting in the deaths of at least five people and injuring five others. Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft operated by 21 Air, overran a runway upon landing, continuing across a road and into a parking lot. It had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico.Witnesses described a chaotic scene with the aircraft emitting heavy flames and smoke. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units found the plane had struck multiple vehicles on the ground. Some individuals were trapped inside their vehicles, requiring extrication. The pilot and co-pilot were trapped within the aircraft's cockpit.Of the five injured, three are in critical condition; two were taken to local hospitals with less severe injuries. Officials have not yet determined whether the fatalities were occupants of the aircraft or individuals in the vehicles struck. Extensive damage and fire led to an active fuel leak, which emergency crews mitigated for several hours.Over 60 rescue units and 200 personnel responded to the crash. All flights at Miami International Airport were halted for about three hours, causing widespread delays. While two of the airport's four runways have reopened, the disruption significantly impacted air travel.The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations. An NTSB team is on site to determine the cause. The 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 was converted from a passenger plane to a cargo freighter in 2015. Amazon is cooperating with the ongoing investigations.
