Uruguayan VP Argimon meets Brazilian counterpart Mourao

Vice President Hamilton Mourão met this Friday with his counterpart in Uruguay, Beatriz Argimon.

In a post on social networks, Vice President Beatriz Argimon classified the meeting as “fruitful”, in which topics such as the strengthening of Mercosur and collaboration of both countries in the defence sector were addressed.

On the Brazilian side, the Vice-Presidency of the Republic highlighted that, at the meeting, the issue of border integration between the two countries was also discussed.

Brazil and Uruguay share a land border that stretches for 1,069 kilometres in the extreme south of the country.

In all, there are ten neighbouring cities, five on each side, covered along the border.

Also in Montevideo, Mourão met with the secretary general of the Latin American Integration Association (Aladi), Sergio Abreu. Aladi, whose headquarters are in the Uruguayan capital, is the largest Latin American integration group.

It is made up of 13 member countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, representing together 20 million square kilometres and more than 510 million population.

According to the Brazilian government, the meeting dealt with topics of interest to the country within the bloc, such as the increase in trade, the intensification of physical integration and the promotion of micro, small and medium-sized companies.
