Anti-government Red Shirts stage car convoy protest

Anti-government "red shirts" protesters parade through the streets of Bangkok and neighboring provinces in their vehicles, demanding the coup-maker-turned-premier Gen. Prayut Chan O-Cha to resign for his failed management of the Covid-19 outbreak and the delay in vaccines roll out.

Protests returned to the streets of Bangkok amid growing anger at the government’s handling of the pandemic and the lack of mRNA vaccines in the national inoculation drive.

Bearing red flags, the so-called “car mob” demonstration saw the gathering together of well-known leaders of anti-government and anti-establishment groups.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau sent crowd control officers to help maintain order and direct traffic away from the protest.

So far, 345 people have been arrested on protest-related charges. Another 615 face charges nationwide for their roles in protests held since the beginning of July, according to the police.

In Bangkok, 406 protesters have been charged, 200 of whom have been questioned further by the police.
