"Under a controlled risk, work began to remove the nearly 100 tons of mud that was inside the room. It was done in buckets, by hand for nine hours until the place where the two people were" deceased, was reached. explained to the TN channel Patricia Díaz, Undersecretary of Civil Protection of Bariloche.
On Monday, the death of another Uruguayan tourist had been confirmed, who was trapped in one of the lower rooms. The three fatal victims belong to the same family.
His wife, as well as two other people, were injured and were admitted to local hospitals, in "stable" condition, according to the report.
The avalanche occurred on Monday afternoon when an embankment gave way due to heavy rains and caused a landslide on the hotel complex located in a ravine in the tourist village, 1,500 km from Buenos Aires.
The hotel, a complex of two buildings and a dozen cabins, was evacuated and the perimeter remains fenced to prevent further landslides.
