FIFA President Urges Unity Against Racism
FIFA President Gianni Infantino called to combat racism in Asunción and pointed out that the Brazilian Vinicius and other players are suffering from this scourge.
"We have problems in football. We have to be united to combat racism. Vinicius (Real Madrid forward) and others are suffering. There is no reason for these attacks.
We have to be united against violence in the world," he urged the head of FIFA during the signing of an act for the 2030 World Cup.
He pointed this out on the occasion of the signing of a document of intent at the Conmebol headquarters for the soccer parent company to accept that Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay be declared venues for the opening matches of the 2030 World Cup.
Infantino intervened with a message before the heads of state of Uruguay and Paraguay, Luis Lacalle Pou and Santiago Peña, and the senior leadership of South American football.
"We have to act together with the governments, teams, and players. Going to a match has to be a party", expressed the Swiss.
The manager was decorated by Conmebol with the Order of Honor for Merit in the grade of Extraordinary Great Collar, for his efforts to have these countries chosen as venues, in commemoration of the 100 years of the first World Cup, which was organized by Uruguay.
Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou said on his side that "it is a moral obligation, not a legal one" of the Government to support the 2030 World Cup. "That is why we are here," he stated.
Lacalle said he appreciated Infantino's gesture as he understood that not everything should be about money in football.
The president would have asked Infantino to manage FIFA's approval of the selection of Uruguay for the 2029 draw on the tournament calendar.
