Japan is currently experiencing significant snowfall as a cold front moves across the country. In Fukushima Prefecture, heavy snow accumulation has reached up to 146 cm, contributing to hazardous conditions. Tragically, three resort workers at the Kagetsu Highland Hotel near the Takayu Onsen hot spring were found deceased, suspected to have succumbed to hydrogen sulphide poisoning exacerbated by the snow and low temperatures.

In Sapporo, Hokkaido, residents are facing continued snowfall and cold temperatures. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a Heavy Snow Advisory for the area, with expectations of additional snowfall in the coming days. Residents are advised to exercise caution due to potential disruptions and hazardous conditions.

In Osaka, light snow has been reported, with temperatures hovering around 6°C. While snowfall is less severe compared to northern regions, residents should remain cautious of slippery surfaces and potential travel delays.

Fukuoka is experiencing mostly sunny conditions with temperatures around 8°C. However, a Gale Advisory and High Wave Advisory have been issued for the Genkai Sea and areas around Okinoshima, effective from 9:00 PM JST until Friday, 12:00 PM JST. Residents and maritime operators are urged to stay informed and exercise caution during this period.

The Japan Meteorological Agency continues to monitor the situation closely, providing regular updates and advisories. Residents across affected regions are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of severe weather.

Heavy snow hit Japan as a cold front brought more wintry weather to the country's central regions.

The winter weather is expected to peak before temperatures rise next week, according to the JMA forecast.
