EuroBasket 2025 draw sets group stage matchups
The FIBA EuroBasket 2025 draw was conducted in Riga, Latvia, establishing the group stage matchups for the tournament scheduled from August 27 to September 14, 2025. Co-hosted by Latvia, Finland, Cyprus, and Poland, each nation will host one group during the initial phase, with the knockout rounds set to take place in Riga.
Group A (Riga, Latvia): Portugal, Estonia, Latvia, Türkiye, Serbia and Czechia.
Group B (Tampere, Finland): Germany, Finland, Great Britain, Lithuania, Sweden, Montenegro.
Group C (Limassol, Cyprus): Cyprus, Italy, Georgia, Spain, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Group D (Katowice, Poland): Iceland, France, Slovenia, Poland, Belgium, Israel.
Each co-host nation selected a partner country to be placed in the same group, fostering regional cooperation and fan engagement. The pairings are as follows: Latvia and Estonia, Finland and Lithuania, Cyprus and Greece, Poland and Iceland.
The tournament format involves each team playing every other team in its group once, totaling five games per team. Victories earn two points, while losses grant one point. The top four teams from each group, based on points, will advance to the Round of 16. The knockout stage, including the Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Final, will be held at the Riga Arena in Riga, Latvia.
Group C, hosted in Limassol, Cyprus, has garnered attention as the "Group of Death" due to the presence of formidable teams such as Spain, the reigning champions; Greece, led by NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo; and Italy. Spanish coach Sergio Scariolo acknowledged the group's competitiveness, emphasizing the high caliber of opponents.
