Yemenis Rally in Support of Gaza Amid Conflict
Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis gathered in Sana’a and other provinces to express solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid Israel's ongoing military actions. The demonstrations, called the "million-man march," took place despite heavy rain, with protesters raising Yemeni and Palestinian flags and chanting against Israel’s attacks. Similar rallies occurred in Hajjah, Hudaydah, Ma’rib, and Sa’ada.
Protesters voiced support for Gaza and the anticipated retaliation from the Axis of Resistance following the recent Israeli assassinations, including the killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The demonstrators praised Palestinian missile strikes on Tel Aviv, stating it shows Israel's failure to suppress the resistance despite its prolonged aggression.
A statement by the protest organizers praised the resilience of the Palestinian people and condemned the international community’s inaction. It also denounced Israel’s recent actions at al-Aqsa Mosque, where over 2,200 settlers, including far-right Israeli ministers, entered the compound during the Jewish holiday of Tisha B'Av, a move seen as a violation of the site’s sanctity.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with over 40,000 Palestinians killed and tens of thousands more injured since the onset of Israeli military operations in October last year. The Yemeni forces have conducted numerous operations in support of Gaza, targeting Israeli positions and ships in the region. Despite ongoing violence, the hopes for a ceasefire remain dim.
Since the onset of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, the Yemeni forces have carried out scores of operations in support of the war-hit Gazans, striking targets throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to targeting Israeli ships or vessels heading towards ports in the occupied territories.
