Di María returns to Rosario Central
Argentine midfielder Ángel Di María has officially rejoined Rosario Central, signing a one-year contract with the club where he began his professional career nearly two decades ago. The 37-year-old, who recently retired from the national team, was presented at the Gigante de Arroyito stadium, expressing deep emotion about returning to his roots. Di María aims to achieve the only missing accolade in his illustrious career: winning a championship with Rosario Central.
Having started his career at the club in 2005, Di María moved to Benfica in 2007 and has since played for several top European clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus. Throughout his career, he has amassed 30 titles in Europe and six with the Argentine national team, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
His return to Rosario Central comes after a previous attempt in 2024 was hindered by threats from criminal groups in the area. With improved security measures now in place, Di María has fulfilled his long-held dream of playing for the club again. He has stated that this return is the most meaningful moment of his career, despite his numerous achievements abroad.
Fans are eagerly anticipating his debut in the upcoming Clausura tournament, with Rosario Central's first match scheduled against Godoy Cruz. The announcement of his return has generated excitement among supporters and teammates, including messages of encouragement from fellow Argentine star Lionel Messi. As Di María embarks on this final chapter of his playing career, his homecoming underscores his enduring connection to Rosario Central and his commitment to contributing to the club's future success.
