Czechia tests advanced AI combat drones
The Czech Republic hosted "Drone Shield 2026," showcasing drone technology advancements. It united the Czech Armed Forces, industry, and experts to evaluate ground robotics. Held at Březina and NATEP UGV sites, the exercise involved six hundred personnel, one hundred pieces of equipment, and thirty companies. The exercise focused on testing counter-drone technologies. Scenarios addressed threats from evolving UAS, including fiber-controlled UAVs challenging electronic jamming. It explored detection, countermeasures, and innovative protection technologies. The Armed Forces examined autonomous functions and AI applications. Systems showed advanced navigation and obstacle detection, augmenting human decision-making. The aim is to reduce operator workload, enhance protection, not replace human command.Drone Shield 2026 insights are crucial for the Armed Forces. They will inform future requirements for unmanned systems, improving ability to detect, identify, and defeat small UAS, integrating civilian technologies.Defense industry is vital. LPP Holding developed AI strike drones, combat-tested in Ukraine. TRL Drones introduced the AI fixed-wing interceptor, TRL X, for counter-UAS missions. Czech Technical University contributes software and autonomy. The Czech Republic has strong foundations in radar and electronic warfare, vital for drone defense.Emphasis on drone defense, incorporates Ukraine conflict lessons, highlighting unmanned systems' transformative impact on modern battlefields. This underscores the Czech Republic's commitment to defense innovation and adapting to modern warfare.
