Ecuador awards top honor to US Secretary Rubio

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has bestowed a national honor upon U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, recognizing his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations. Secretary Rubio received the National Order of Merit, Grand Cross, during a recent visit to Quito. This award is one of Ecuador's highest distinctions.The visit underscored a deepening partnership focused on critical security concerns. Discussions between Secretary Rubio and Ecuadorian officials centered on expanding cooperation to combat drug trafficking and transnational criminal activity. The United States is a key ally, providing equipment, training, and intelligence support. During his visit, Secretary Rubio announced proposed U.S. congressional funding of forty-five million dollars to bolster Ecuador's security capabilities. The United States also plans to deliver a Coast Guard cutter and other vessels to enhance maritime security against narcotics trafficking and illegal fishing.The strengthening of these bilateral ties reflects a shared commitment to regional stability and economic prosperity. This collaboration is part of a broader U.S. strategy to counter criminal networks in the Western Hemisphere, with Ecuador as a highly engaged partner.
