Meanwhile The European Union is working on reaching a ceasefire and hostage deal in the ongoing war in Gaza, EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell said in Cairo.
"A ceasefire has been announced so many times, we are almost there, but we are not there. Why? Why? Quiet simple: because those who are waging war have no interest in putting an end to it. So, they are pretending, less and less pretending," Borrell said during a news conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, in Cairo.
Borrell visited Egypt’s side of the Rafah border crossing and said the European Union is ready to leverage its logistics to assist in reopening the border crossing. He also met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
