Prince Harry honors UK's ill children
Prince Harry attended the WellChild Awards, celebrating seriously ill children and young people. As patron for eighteen years, he championed the charity's mission to improve the lives of children with complex needs. The event also marked the 20th anniversary of the WellChild Nurse programme. The awards highlight the achievements of children facing health challenges, and their families, carers, and healthcare professionals. Among the winners were six-year-old Margot Jones-Billington, Inspirational Child. Margot, who suffered a brain bleed and stroke at 20 months, navigates complex conditions. Ten-year-old Will Messer, Inspirational Child. A wheelchair rugby player, swimmer, and karate enthusiast, Will pursued sporting ambitions despite complex conditions. Sofia Dobson, twelve-year-old Inspirational Young Person, was celebrated for resilience after suffering a stroke at birth. Rosanna Cornforth-Revill was Inspirational Young Person. Twins Samira and Naima Chung-Graham received an award for caring for their sister Nya with complex needs. Special recognition to George Tappenden. Rebecca Hopwood was Champion of Children's Nursing, and Rachel Shanahan received the Inspirational Nurse award. WellChild's Chief Executive, Matt James, highlighted the growing number of children in the UK living with complex needs and acknowledged their challenges. Prince Harry met with winners and their families, expressing it was a privilege to meet the extraordinary individuals. The charity's work is crucial in enabling children with complex needs to receive care at home, rather than in hospitals.
