Russian Missile Strike Kills Two in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine
At least one person died and five could still be under the rubble after a Russian missile struck a civilian infrastructure building in the central Ukraine city of Kryvyi Rih, regional officials said.
Four people were injured in the attack and were hospitalized, Oleksandr Vilkul, head of Kryvyi Rih's military administration said on the Telegram messaging app.
Two people were killed when a hotel was "wiped out" in the central Ukraine city of Kryvyi Rih, regional officials said, while two more died in drone attacks on the city of Zaporizhzhia, east of Kryvyi Rih.
The Kyiv region's air defense systems were also deployed several times overnight to repel missiles and drones targeting the Ukrainian capital, the Kyiv region's military administration said.
Witnesses reported hearing at least three rounds of explosions overnight in the capital, though it was not clear at the time whether the explosions were air defense systems in operation or weapons hitting their targets.
The head of Kyiv's military administration later confirmed Ukrainian air defenses had shot down about 15 drones and several missiles during the assault, claiming "everything that flew to the capital of Ukraine was destroyed".
Ukraine's air force said it observed Russian forces launching several groups of drones ahead of the attack, as well as Tu-85 strategic bombers and MiG-31 supersonic interceptor aircraft taking off from Russian airfields.
In total, Russia launched 10 missiles and 81 drones during the assault, the air force said, of which five missiles and 60 drones were shot down.
The renewed attacks came a day after Russia launched more than 200 missiles and drones against its smaller neighbor, killing at least seven and damaging energy infrastructure in an attack condemned by US President Joe Biden as "outrageous".
The Kremlin has said Russian forces do not target civilian objects in their attacks on Ukraine.
