ICE arrest comedian in Minneapolis
Robby Roadsteamer was detained during ICE protest
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested comedian and protest singer Robby Roadsteamer during a demonstration outside a federal building in Minneapolis, footage showed. Video captured agents forcing him to the ground as protesters shouted and moved in to confront officers. Earlier scenes from the protest showed Roadsteamer and other demonstrators dancing in the street—at one point alongside a person in a frog costume—while singing songs critical of ICE.
Confrontations between residents and additional ICE personnel occurred elsewhere in Minneapolis, with some people seen being dispersed by tear gas. Local resident Christian Molina said an ICE vehicle struck his car while moving through the area; he described exiting his vehicle to confront agents after the incident. Authorities did not immediately report arrests beyond the detention of Roadsteamer.
The protest follows a fatal shooting during a recent federal immigration operation that heightened tensions in Minnesota. A federal immigration officer shot and killed Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who had been observing the enforcement action; the incident sparked widespread public outrage and a series of demonstrations. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem characterized Good’s actions as an attempted vehicle attack and labeled her conduct domestic terrorism, asserting the agent acted in self-defense after Good allegedly drove toward the officer. Critics and demonstrators have rejected that account, staging protests that denounce the shooting as unjustified.
Minnesota officials have pointed to bystander video they say shows Good’s vehicle turning away from the agent at the time shots were fired, a detail that has intensified calls for independent review and greater transparency. Good had been a volunteer with a community network that monitors and records ICE operations in Minneapolis; supporters say her role was protective rather than provocative.
The Minneapolis protests reflect deeper divisions over federal immigration enforcement tactics and the use of force in community oversight contexts. Activists accuse ICE of heavy-handed operations and call for accountability and reform, while federal officials defend agents’ actions as necessary for officer safety and law enforcement effectiveness. The arrest of a high-profile protest performer underscored the tensions between demonstrators and federal officers and drew attention to the methods used to control and disperse crowds.
