Iran Unveils New Undetectable Cruise Missiles

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards said that its navy has new cruise missiles equipped with highly explosive warheads that are undetectable, state media reported.

The announcement by the country's most powerful security organization coincides with fears of a full-blown Middle East war after Iran vowed to avenge the assassination in Tehran on July 31 of Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the Palestinian Islamist Hamas.

Iran has blamed Israel, while Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.

The Guards' navy said in a statement that various types of long and medium range missile systems, as well as reconnaissance drones and naval radars, have been added to its fleet.

State television displayed several of the weapons. The navy added that only 210 of the 2,654 systems were shown as it was not possible to unveil other strategic ones for security reasons.

Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps' Top Commander, General Hossein Salami, Saying: "Today, the accuracy of weapons in the navy, the speed of operation of systems and vessels, intelligence, mobility and dexterity are certainly considered among our naval power."

The new additions to the naval force include radar-evading cruise missiles that feature high-explosive warheads and are capable of causing severe damage and sinking destroyers.

Iran has been relying on domestic endeavors and know-how amid sanctions to make significant advances in enhancing the self-sufficiency of its Armed Forces.

Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps' Navy Commander, General Alireza Tangsiri, Said: "In order to deal with electronic warfare, we have added systems that will actually be added to the complex today by the hand of the respected IRGC commander and his presence."

Iran has one of the biggest missile programs in the Middle East, regarding such weapons as an important deterrent and retaliatory force against the U.S. and Israel in the event of war.

According to the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Iran is armed with the largest number of ballistic missiles in the region.
