Israeli strikes kill 20 in Lebanon
Air raids hit multiple areas amid rising clashes
Israeli airstrikes across multiple parts of Lebanon have killed at least 20 people and wounded 26, Lebanese officials and media report, as fighting between Israel and Hezbollah intensifies amid a widening regional confrontation. Strikes before dawn targeted sites in southern Lebanon and areas near Beirut that Israel says are linked to Hezbollah command centers, weapons storage and missile launch sites.
Rescue teams and civil defense crews searched rubble and treated the injured as ambulances transported casualties to hospitals already strained by recent clashes. Lebanese sources said several of the dead were civilians while others were believed to be Hezbollah fighters. Residential neighborhoods in the Tyre district, Western Bekaa and the Aicha Bakkar area of Beirut sustained heavy damage, with homes collapsing and families fleeing to shelters or moving northward away from the border.
Local reports detailed multiple strikes and casualties: fatalities and injuries in Hanouiyeh, Qana, Chehabiyeh, Sharqiya, Kfartabnit, Zellaya and Al‑Housh, and wounded residents in Tebnine. State-linked outlets said paramedics were among those killed. The strikes follow sustained exchanges in which Hezbollah has launched rockets and drones toward northern Israel; many projectiles were intercepted but some caused damage and injuries inside Israel.
Lebanese authorities warn the intensifying campaign is producing a deepening humanitarian crisis: thousands in southern Lebanon have been displaced, and aid groups say the number could rise if attacks continue. The United Nations and international governments have urged restraint and de‑escalation, warning that clashes along the Israel‑Lebanon border could expand into a wider regional war. Peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon are monitoring the situation and stress respect for international humanitarian law.
Analysts describe the recent bombardments as among the most intense in months. The violence follows broader regional strikes that have already produced heavy casualties and heightened tensions across the Middle East; with both Israel and Hezbollah showing no immediate signs of standing down, the risk of further escalation and additional civilian harm remains high as authorities continue tallying casualties and damage.
