Drone attack damages Bapco facility

Smoke rises over Bahrain refinery

Thick smoke was seen rising from the direction of the Bapco oil refinery in Bahrain. Smoke surrounded the refinery after the government earlier said injuries and damage were sustained in the Sitra area as a result of an Iranian drone attack, a witness said. Bapco is Bahrain's main oil refinery and a key facility in the country's energy sector.

Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa said that he is saddened by what his and other Arab countries are facing from "unprecedented attacks that can't be justified under any pretext by Iran," saying the kingdom has always pursued peace and good neighbourly relations.

In remarks aired on Bahrain TV, the king said Bahrain would remain committed in its “approach of wisdom and moderation” and fulfilling its obligations towards Arab countries and the international community.

Bahrain's Bapco Energies declared force majeure on its group operations following a recent attack on its refinery complex, the company said.

Bapco said that all domestic market needs remain fully secured and supplies will continue without disruption, supported by proactive plans in place.
