Torrential Rains Sweep Oman
Three children were killed, after they were swept away by torrential rains in the north of the Sultanate of Oman, some of whose governorates are witnessing rainfall of varying intensity, according to what the Oman News Agency reported.
The Persian Gulf region, where record temperatures are recorded during the summer, is affected by a depression that causes temperatures to drop, heavy rains, and torrential rains to form in some areas. The agency wrote on the “X” platform that “two dead children were found swept away in Wadi Bani Ghafir in the Wilayat of Rustaq” in the South Al Batinah Governorate in the north of the country.
While search and rescue teams were “continuing the search for a third child,” the agency said that he was found “by citizens, and he is dead.” The agency did not specify the ages of the children. The floods caused the closure of a number of main roads in the governorates, according to the agency.
Heavy thunderstorms continue.
The Omani Meteorological Authority quoted a statement issued by the Civil Aviation, in which it expected “the continuation of heavy thunderstorms accompanied by active winds and hailstones likely to fall.”
The authority called on citizens “not to cross valleys, avoid low-lying places, and not go to the sea during the alert period”.
In the neighboring Emirates, heavy rains caused flooding of a large number of roads across the country, led to the cessation of home delivery services and prompted remote study and work in government departments and schools and some private companies and educational institutions. The ministries and relevant authorities announced in separate statements published by the Emirates News Agency, that working and studying remotely will continue.
