“Ali Larijani” killed in Tehran strikes
Iran confirms death Iran's top security official martyred in American-Israeli aggression
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) confirmed the death of its secretary, Ali Larijani, in a statement, and the presidency offered condolences, calling it a major loss. Iranian and Israeli sources reported Larijani was killed in wide-scale Israeli strikes on Tehran; Israeli officials said the attack also killed Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij volunteer force. The Israel Defense Forces said the strikes targeted Iranian government infrastructure and that both Larijani and Soleimani were among the fatalities.
Born in Najaf in 1958, Larijani held senior roles across the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, state broadcasting (IRIB) and government after the 1979 revolution. He served as Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator and was Speaker of Parliament for three terms before returning in August 2025 to the SNSC secretary post. The SNSC’s statement announced Larijani’s “martyrdom,” saying he, his son Mortaza, the SNSC deputy for security Alireza Bayat, and several bodyguards were killed and framing the deaths as the fulfillment of his long-held aspiration in service to the Islamic Revolution.
The statement praised Larijani’s lifelong work for national interests, urged unity in the face of hostility, and vowed that martyrdom would strengthen resolve.
