Apple is reportedly set to launch an upgraded version of its Vision Pro headset, potentially as early as this year. The new device is expected to feature an M4 processor, which offers significant performance improvements over the current M2 chip, including enhanced multicore CPU and graphics capabilities. The Vision Pro, originally released in early 2024 for $3,499, will also include redesigned straps aimed at reducing neck and head discomfort for users.

The upcoming headset may incorporate more than the 16 neural engine cores found in the current model, making it the first M4 chip with such capabilities. This aligns with Apple's broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence across its product lineup, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

In addition to the M4 processor, Apple is testing new headbands to improve comfort during extended use. While the design of the headset itself is not expected to change significantly, the weight will likely remain around 1.3 to 1.4 pounds. Analysts suggest that a lighter and more affordable version of the Vision Pro could be released by 2027, along with augmented reality glasses similar to those from Meta.

Apple has not made significant hardware updates to the Vision Pro since its launch, focusing instead on software enhancements. The next major software update, visionOS 26, is anticipated to introduce features such as 3D video playback from non-Apple sources and improved support for external accessories.

Bloomberg's report aligns with insights from supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who indicated that a more extensive redesign of the Vision Pro could occur in 2027 or 2028, with a milder refresh potentially arriving in late 2025. Overall, these developments reflect Apple's ongoing commitment to advancing its headset technology and enhancing user experience.
