The +Colonia project plans to build a private city for an additional 30,000 inhabitants, doubling the current population. The idea is to also create an urban pole of knowledge with the arrival of educational centers and companies in the sector to become "the largest center of innovation in Latin America," say the promoters.
All this on a 500-hectare piece of land that Carlos Bastitta, an Argentine living in Uruguay, bought more than three decades ago. During that time, the businessman has failed several times in his attempt to launch a project in the area.
But his son Eduardo, 41, and several Argentine businessmen have gotten the green light from the Colonia mayor to build the "River Plate city of the future." For this, the departmental government has requalified the area to be able to build more houses.
The promoter's proposal is "globally inspired": to bring back young people who left Argentina or Uruguay but are willing to return to a green, safe and hyper-connected urban paradise on the banks of the Río de la Plata. "It is a project that aims to carry out an urbanization that brings together young people and companies, creating an innovation hub and becoming a place where companies and educational institutions are installed," Bastitta explained. Ultra-fast internet connection with 5G and Wifi 6 throughout the surface, renewable energies, efficient water and waste management, with urban planning "for people and not for traffic".
