Iran unveils new underground drone base
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has unveiled a new underground drone base, marking a significant enhancement of the country's military capabilities. The facility, whose location remains undisclosed, is designed to house advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and is part of Iran's broader strategy to fortify its defense infrastructure against potential threats.
The unveiling comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerning Iran's adversaries, the United States and Israel. The IRGC has emphasized that these underground facilities are crucial for maintaining a retaliatory capacity in the event of an attack, complicating adversaries' surveillance and neutralization efforts.
This development is part of the large-scale "Payambar-e Azam 19" (The Great Prophet 19) military exercises, which showcase Iran's advancements in missile and drone technology. The IRGC's Aerospace Force has introduced facilities referred to as "missile and drone cities," including underground missile storage sites and naval units located in southern Iran.
In addition to the drone base, Iran has recently unveiled new ballistic missile systems, such as the solid-fueled Qasem Basir, with a range of 1,400 kilometers. Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh stated that U.S. bases would be targets if war is imposed on Iran.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has underscored the importance of advancing the country's military capabilities, including missile development, in response to perceived threats from the U.S. He emphasized that Iran's defensive power serves as a significant deterrent to its enemies.
The international community continues to monitor Iran's military developments closely, as these advancements have significant implications for regional security and the balance of power in the Middle East.
