Sanaa University Rallies for Gaza Solidarity
Hundreds of students demonstrated at the campus of Sanaa University in Yemen’s capital in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Joined by professors, protesters held up Palestinian flags and signs reading 'Boycott American and Israeli goods!'. They also chanted slogans against the United States and Israel.
The rally, led by Dr. Yahya al-Mutawakel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and other university officials, saw participants—staff, students, and faculty—raise Yemeni and Palestinian flags and chant slogans against American and Zionist policies.
They condemned the ongoing genocide and massacres in Gaza, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties amid international inaction and alleged Arab complicity.
A statement from the rally labeled the violence in Gaza as "the crime of the century" and criticized neighboring Arab nations for their perceived support of the enemy.
Participants praised the resilience of the Palestinian people and their resistance fighters, calling for continued support through military, official, and popular actions.
The statement also highlighted global student movements supporting Palestine and urged Arab and Islamic nations to take action against Israeli aggression, including enforcing a comprehensive economic boycott.
The Houthis have launched missiles and drones at Israel and disrupted global trade through the Red Sea in response to Israel's assault on Gaza.
Israel says the Iran-backed Houthis have launched 200 attacks against it since the war began, many of them intercepted and most of them not deadly.
But a rare Houthi drone strike hit Tel Aviv, killing one person and prompting Israel to announce its first strikes against the group. The airstrikes hit near the Hodeidah and killed six people, local medics said.
Additionally, the rally celebrated recent military achievements by the Yemeni armed forces.
