Diddy convicted in prostitution case

Sean "Diddy" Combs was found guilty of prostitution-related offenses but acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. The jury convicted him of transportation to engage in prostitution, which could lead to a maximum 10-year prison sentence for each count. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian will determine his sentence later. The acquittals on sex trafficking charges spared Combs from a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence and potential life imprisonment.
The trial revealed testimonies from two former girlfriends who accused Combs of physical and sexual abuse. Prosecutors alleged that Combs used his business empire to coerce these women into participating in drug-fueled sexual performances, known as "Freak Offs," with male sex workers. Evidence presented included drugs and a large quantity of lubricants found during raids of Combs' homes.
Combs, 55, pleaded not guilty to all charges, with his defense arguing that any violence in his relationships did not equate to sex trafficking. They claimed the women were independent and consensually participated in the performances. The trial included surveillance footage of Combs allegedly attacking one of the women, Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, in 2016.
Ventura had previously sued Combs for sex trafficking, settling for $20 million. The trial also featured testimonies from Combs' former assistants, who described their roles in facilitating the alleged activities. Prosecutors contended that Combs' actions constituted a racketeering conspiracy aimed at facilitating abuse and covering up evidence.
Following the verdict, Combs expressed optimism about his future, stating, "I’m gonna be home soon," as supporters cheered. His defense team is currently seeking bail, while prosecutors oppose the request. Combs has been in federal custody since his arrest in September 2024.
