Katsuta leads Rally Paraguay shakedown
Takamoto Katsuta set the fastest time in the shakedown for Rally del Paraguay 2026, which marks the eleventh round of the FIA World Rally Championship. His Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 completed the 5.6-kilometer stage in Carmen del Paraná with a time of 2 minutes and 59.5 seconds. This placed him more than a second ahead of competitors.The shakedown is an official practice session, allowing teams and drivers to fine-tune car settings and familiarize with the terrain. While the times do not count towards the overall rally results, they offer a crucial indicator of form and preparation.Paraguay is hosting the World Rally Championship for the second time. Its 2025 debut earned it the title of "Best Rally of 2025". The event is based in Encarnación, and is renowned for its distinctive red gravel roads. These stages are fast yet demanding, with deep ruts and sudden changes in surface that can test drivers. The 2026 edition runs from August 27th to 30th.Hyundai's Hayden Paddon was second-fastest, matching Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux. Championship leader Elfyn Evans was fifth fastest. Sébastien Ogier, 2025 rally winner, also participated in the shakedown.Rain is forecast, which could significantly impact the clay-surfaced stages and complicate the rally.
