First outdoor outings for the Beauva panda twins
Seven and a half months after their birth, the panda twins of ZooParc de Beauval, Huanlili and Yuandudu, made their first outings in their outdoor enclosure which they explored once again without their mother, in front of dozens of visitors.
For the second time since Friday, the twins went out under a bright sun Monday morning in their outdoor enclosure protected by a large ditch, fitted out with rocks, wooden structures and a pond, according to a photographer.
Dropped off by two caregivers, the twins fell asleep briefly before beginning their exploration.
One of them climbed over a wooden palisade, and briefly got stuck at the top.
The other panda also very quickly climbed a tree 1.5m above the ground. The twins then returned to their internal enclosure.
They lay down in their hammock, side by side on their backs, and chewed their paws, eventually falling asleep. Several dozen visitors, including fans of the two panda twins, attended this outing.
Weighing 150 grams at birth, the twins now weigh 15 kilos for 70 cm, and still receive a feeding on the mother, and a bottle during the day.
"It went very well, the twins went out for another hour, they came back when they decided to go back," Baptiste Mulot, veterinary manager at Zooparc de Beauval, said.
“They are resourceful and flexible,” noted the veterinarian, adding that the operation will be repeated on Tuesday, “until we are confident and we can take them out with their mother”.
Born on August 2 at the ZooParc, the two pandas are godfather and godmother to French footballer Kylian Mbappé and Chinese Olympic champion Zhang Jiaqi, gold medalist in Tokyo in synchronised diving.
