IOC reviews plans for upcoming Games
Board discusses reforms and future strategy
International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry opened executive board discussions in Lausanne, reporting progress on preparations for upcoming Games and highlighting recent developments across the Olympic Movement. Coventry noted updates from the coordination commissions for Dakar and Los Angeles and flagged a new partnership with JPMorgan Chase as evidence of continued commercial and operational work supporting future editions of the Games.
She paid tribute to former IOC member Sir Craig Reedie, announcing further commemorations, and set the tone for meetings focused on long-term planning under the IOC’s “Fit for the Future” agenda. Delegates were expected to review organisational reforms intended to modernise the Olympic structure, strengthen financial and commercial stability, and raise sustainability standards for major events.
Key agenda items include athlete participation policies, anti-doping enforcement, fairness in competition, and the potential integration of new sports into Olympic programmes. Discussions are taking place amid wider pressures on international sport—geopolitical tensions, debates over athlete eligibility, and mounting calls to reduce the environmental impact of large-scale competitions.
Held at IOC headquarters in Lausanne, the Executive Board meeting will shape recommendations and decisions to be taken to the wider membership in subsequent sessions. Officials signalled attention to improving coordination, governance, and resilience across the Movement as it prepares for upcoming Games cycles, with further updates and formal outcomes expected as the multi-day meeting progresses.
