Indonesia and Thailand chart 2030 partnership
Indonesia and Thailand have recently reinforced their bilateral relations by adopting a comprehensive strategic partnership roadmap, designed to guide cooperation through 2030. The agreement was finalized during a high-level consultation in Jakarta, co-chaired by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. This landmark accord sets a framework for enhanced collaboration across four key pillars: political and security, economic, socio-cultural, and regional and international cooperation. Both nations aim to significantly increase bilateral trade, targeting an ambitious 20 billion US dollars by the end of the decade. Economic initiatives under the roadmap include strengthening food and energy security, promoting investment in sectors like the halal industry and sustainable fisheries, and expanding market access. They also plan to establish a Joint Trade Commission and an Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum to facilitate these goals. On the security front, cooperation will focus on combating transnational crime, including online fraud and human trafficking, and enhancing defense ties. Socio-cultural exchanges are also prioritized, with an emphasis on educational cooperation, including AI skills development and language learning. Furthermore, the roadmap commits both countries to closer coordination within regional and international forums such as ASEAN and the OECD, addressing issues from Myanmar to the Middle East. This strategic partnership marks a crucial step in deepening ties between two of Southeast Asia's largest economies, building on a history of diplomatic relations established over seven decades ago.
