a significant pro-Palestinian demonstration took place outside the United States Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia. Organized by the Indonesian Coalition to Defend Baitulmaqdis (KIBBM), the rally was part of the "All Eyes on Rafah" campaign, highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Rafah, Gaza.
Thousands of participants, dressed in white and black attire symbolizing solidarity, gathered early in the morning to express their support for the Palestinian people and to protest against Israeli military actions in Gaza. The demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and banners, chanting slogans demanding justice and an end to the violence.
During the event, KIBBM leader Bachtiar Nasir criticized both the Israeli and U.S. governments for their roles in the conflict, calling for immediate international intervention to halt the violence and to support Palestinian independence. He also urged the public to reinstate the boycott of Israeli products, emphasizing the importance of economic pressure in the struggle for Palestinian rights.
To ensure the demonstration remained peaceful, authorities deployed approximately 1,120 security personnel.
This protest is part of a broader pattern of pro-Palestinian activism in Indonesia, a nation with the world's largest Muslim population. Notably, on November 5, 2023, approximately two million people gathered at Jakarta's National Monument (Monas) in a massive rally organized by the Indonesian Ulema Council and the Indonesian People’s Alliance for Palestine, showcasing widespread public support for Palestine.
The demonstration underscores Indonesia's ongoing commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights and reflects the nation's active engagement in global humanitarian issues.
