Ukraine hosts global envoy summit
Over hundred ambassadors and heads of Ukrainian diplomatic missions all over the world gathered in Kyiv for a conference hosted by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
The event is designed to enhance cooperation between Ukraine and its international partners, further Ukraine's interests on the global stage and boost diplomatic efforts in several crucial areas.
Diplomatic efforts should focus on three primary areas according to President Zelenskiy - arms supplies, reconstruction efforts and sanctions against Russia.
Ensuring Ukraine receives adequate military support from its international allies and strengthening Ukraine's military capabilities should be a key objective of all diplomatic efforts. The importance of international cooperation in rebuilding Ukraine's infrastructure and economy, adversely affected by ongoing conflict as well as strengthening and expanding sanctions against Russia have also been highlighted as key diplomatic strategies for Ukraine's diplomacy.
President Zelenskiy is expected to appoint a number of new ambassadors to further Ukraine's diplomatic missions globally.
Last week, President Zelenskiy nominated Olha Stefanishyna, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, for the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States. Her nomination reflects Ukraine's commitment to deepening ties with the United States, a crucial ally in its diplomatic and strategic endeavors.
In the meanwhile Russia launched a new barrage of drones and missiles at Ukraine in an overnight attack, killing at least one person and causing multiple fires in the capital Kyiv, city officials said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said rescuers and medics were working on sites across four districts of the capital. A subway station in central Kyiv, commercial property, shops, houses and a kindergarten were damaged, city officials said.
In another tense and sleepless night for Kyiv residents, many rushed to take shelter in underground stations. Explosions were heard across the city as air defence units engaged in repelling the attack.
