Araghchi says Iran won war and diplomacy
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran emerged victorious both militarily and diplomatically during the recent war with the United States and Israel, arguing that Iranian resistance forced the enemy to come to the table. Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran for a memorandum of understanding between the foreign ministry and the health sector, he said the conflict produced scenes of courage and sacrifice comparable to those seen during the Iran-Iraq war.
Araghchi said Iranians across society played a decisive role in keeping the country functioning under attack. He said men and women in the medical field, public services and other sectors ensured that access to food, hygiene, treatment and essential care was not interrupted. He added that the foreign ministry’s cooperation with the health ministry to secure medicines and medical supplies during the war was one of its most difficult tasks.
The minister said Iran “rendered the world’s largest conventional army incapable” and showed the world that the Islamic Republic is resilient and formidable. He said he had heard the same assessment from foreign ministers and other officials, who told him that Iran had surprised the world by resisting the United States, Israel, Western countries and their supporters. He said the side that initially demanded “unconditional surrender” later had to seek negotiations, proving that Iran had defended its interests effectively.
Araghchi also said Iran handled the diplomatic process with discipline and dignity, and that the outcome reflected both battlefield resistance and political skill. He said Iranian officials were proud of the ethics shown during the conflict and the sacrifices made by the health and resistance sectors.
Iranian officials say the agreement was meant to end hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, but that later escalation has left the future of talks uncertain.
