Iran targets U.S. base in Qatar strike
Iran released footage claiming to show missile launches targeting U.S. forces stationed at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The operation, dubbed "Glad Tidings of Victory" by Tehran, was presented as retaliation for the U.S.'s recent airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities during Operation Midnight Hammer.
According to Iranian state media, the missile barrage was a direct response to what they termed "U.S. military aggression" against Iran's nuclear program. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the attack was intended to demonstrate Iran's capability to strike U.S. military assets in the region.
However, Qatari and U.S. officials reported that the majority of the missiles were intercepted by Qatar's air defense systems, with no casualties or significant damage reported. Qatar condemned the attack as a violation of its sovereignty and international law.
Majed Al Ansari, Spokesperson, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "The State of Qatar condemns in the strongest terms the Iranian missile attack on the Qatari Al Udeid Air Base. This attack represents a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty, and contravenes the principles of good neighborliness, and an assault on international legitimacy and international law. The State of Qatar affirms that it reserves the right to respond in accordance with international law and in proportion to the nature and scale of this attack."
US President Donald Trump acknowledged the missile strike, describing it as a "very weak" response and thanked Iran for the advance warning, which allowed for protective measures to be taken. He emphasized that no American personnel were harmed and expressed hope for de-escalation.
The incident has heightened tensions in the region, with international leaders urging restraint and a return to diplomatic negotiations to prevent further escalation.
