Israeli Airstrike Hits Gaza Hospital Tent
An Israeli airstrike hit a tent used by local journalists inside the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Gaza's Deir Al-Balah, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are sheltering, killing one journalist and wounding two other people, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office said.
"The number of journalist martyrs has risen to 163 male and female journalists since the start of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, after the journalist colleague died," the media office said.
A video filmed in the aftermath of the strike showed people trying to put out a fire inside a tent by dousing it with water, while some called for a fire extinguisher.
The video was verified by buildings, trees and signs which match file and satellite imagery of the hospital grounds. Corroborating aftermath from different sources also shows the same scene. Original file metadata also shows date and location.
Israel has vowed to eradicate Hamas after militants killed 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages in a cross-border assault on Oct. 7, 2023, according to Israeli tallies.
The death toll among Palestinians in Israel's retaliatory offensive since then had reached at least 39,006 Gaza health authorities said.
Hamas released footage showing what they said were militants targeting Israeli military vehicles in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
In the footage, mostly shot from the militants' point-of-view, rockets can be seen fired at what Hamas called “enemy vehicles in the incursion area”.
In one of the clips, a description suggested they were working in alliance with the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.
Around 400,000 people are living in the targeted areas and that dozens of families have begun to leave their houses, Palestinian officials said, adding they were not given time to leave before the Israeli strikes began.
