Jorge Martin celebrates MotoGP title win
Newly crowned MotoGP champion Jorge Martin added his first plaque to the Tower of Champions trophy at the season-ending awards gala.
Earlier, the Prima Pramac Racing rider finished third in the Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona, which was won by his title rival Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati.
Martin led by 19 points heading into the final race of the season and the Spaniard needed to finish in the top nine to clinch the title if polesitter and two-time champion Bagnaia won the race.
Bagnaia had done everything to close the gap in the title race with an 11th win of the season, but Martin's 32 podiums across sprints and races earned him the title by 10 points.
The Awards ceremony also saw the sport usher in their new brand identity for the 2025 season, revealing a fresh black and white MotoGP logo that will go in hand with the catchphrase "Faster, Forward, Fearless."
Martin's journey to the title showcases a remarkable progression through motorsport's ranks. Starting from his debut in 2015 with Mapfre Mahindra, he claimed the Moto3 World Championship in 2018 before advancing through Moto2. His MotoGP career with Prima Pramac Racing began in 2021, marked by early success including a pole position in his second race and a victory in the Styrian GP.
The 2024 season proved to be Martin's masterclass in consistency. After taking an early championship lead in Portugal, he maintained his position with remarkable consistency, missing the podium only twice between Rounds 5 and 18. His championship campaign gained momentum with crucial victories and podium finishes, particularly in Indonesia and subsequent races.
At 26 years and 293 days, Martin became the oldest rider to win their first MotoGP title since the class's introduction in 2002. He joins an elite group of Spanish champions alongside Criville, Mir, Lorenzo, and Marquez. With 508 points, he also became the first rider to surpass 500 points in a single premier class season.
