Maj. Gen. Safavi warns foreign forces against invasion
Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, a senior military advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that any foreign force landing on Iranian territory in a possible invasion “will be destroyed.” Speaking on television, he said Iran’s missile, air-defense and territorial-defense capabilities had advanced to the point that any attempt to land inside the country would fail.
Safavi said Iran has at least 10 million trained Basij personnel who could defend the country through a dispersed, mosaic-style model and asymmetric warfare. He described the population as the main pillar of the Islamic Republic’s power and national security, and said Iran was prepared for both defensive and retaliatory operations.
He also said Iran has made major progress in missile, drone and air-defense systems, while maintaining close surveillance of foreign military activity in the region. He claimed Iranian radar systems can track US naval vessels across the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean and determine their locations.
On the Strait of Hormuz, Safavi said reopening it would depend on the lifting of what he called the United States’ illegal naval blockade. He said the waterway would not reopen under US military pressure and that Iran and Oman could establish the mechanism instead, adding that reopening was conditional on Washington accepting Iran’s terms.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has warned the United States against launching a new attack on Iran, saying Washington would gain “nothing but failure” from any such action.
IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said that Washington has already experienced defeat in previous rounds of aggression.
“In this particular case, if the US wants to attack anywhere in Iran, not only Mount Kolang and not only the location it has threatened, we will stand against the American attack with full readiness,” he added.
