Medellín mourns slain singer B-King
Judge cites abuse and deterrence as rapper vows appeal
Miles of mourners filled Medellín to say goodbye to Bayron Sánchez Salazar, the Colombian urban singer known as B-King, whose body was repatriated after he vanished in Mexico City. Family and friends held a funeral service in Medellín where candles, flowers and music accompanied tributes to the young artist, and crowds chanted “Justicia para B-King” in a farewell that doubled as a protest against violence and impunity.
Sánchez and his colleague, DJ Regio Clown (Jorge Luis Herrera), disappeared after leaving a gym in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City. Both were last seen after performing at a nightclub days earlier. Mexican authorities later located their remains in Cocotitlán, State of Mexico; prosecutors say the bodies were dismembered and placed in bags. Mexican investigators have opened a high-profile homicide probe while Colombian officials have pressed for rapid progress and cross-border cooperation.
The case attracted wider attention after the detention of Venezuelan actress and content creator Angie Miller, who is being held for questioning in connection with the investigation. Officials in Mexico and Colombia characterize the murders as an international priority and say they are coordinating inquiries.
Colombian leaders and institutions responded publicly: the president condemned the killings as an attack on life and art, the mayor’s office declared the city in mourning, and cultural organizations pledged tributes to preserve B-King’s artistic legacy. Social media filled with condolences and solidarity from fans and fellow artists, many highlighting the singer’s blend of reggaeton, trap and urban rhythms and his role giving voice to young Colombians.
Mourners at the service and commentators framed Sánchez’s death as symptomatic of broader insecurity facing artists and citizens across the region, turning the funeral into both an expression of grief and a call for accountability. Authorities continue to investigate motives and pursue leads as communities on both sides of the border await answers.
