The 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) was officially launched at Monte Carlo's Casino Square, marking the start of a 14-race season spanning four continents. Defending champion Thierry Neuville, representing Hyundai, will sport the number one on his i20 N Rally1, though he acknowledged that "all counters are on zero again" as he prepares to defend his 2024 title.

The launch event, set against the backdrop of the iconic Casino de Monte-Carlo, began with a moment of remembrance for His Excellency Mr. Didier Guillaume, Monaco's Minister of State, who passed away on January 17. Notable officials present included FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, Hankook Tire Motorsport Senior Director Manfred Sandbichler, and other key motorsport figures.

The 2025 season brings several significant changes to the driver lineup. Adrien Fourmaux moves to Hyundai, joining champions Neuville and Ott Tänak. Sami Pajari joins Toyota Gazoo Racing as a full-time driver alongside Elfyn Evans, Takamoto Katsuta, and part-time driver Kalle Rovanperä. Josh McErlean makes his Rally1 debut with M-Sport Ford.

Eight-time world champion Sébastien Ogier will compete in selected rounds for Toyota, including the season-opening Monte Carlo Rally, where he aims for a record tenth victory. The event also marks a historic moment for Hankook Tire, making their WRC debut as the championship's tire supplier.

FIA President Ben Sulayem expressed optimism about the championship's future, while WRC Promoter Managing Director Jona Siebel emphasized the significance of Monte Carlo as the season opener, describing it as "a unique brand, full of emotions, heritage and passion."

The Monte Carlo Rally, the traditional season opener, is scheduled to run from Wednesday to Sunday, launching what promises to be an exciting year of rally competition.
