Algerian volunteers pack food aid for Ramadan

As Ramadan began volunteers in Algeria's capital Algiers gathered to sort and pack donated food items for families in need across the country. This annual charitable campaign, organized by the Algerian Food Bank and Sidra Association, aims to provide essential food parcels to 10,000 families this year.
According to Sidra Association member Omar Benabdelazi, the initiative relies on donors and the active participation of young volunteers to ensure families facing financial difficulties have access to basic food supplies during the holy month. The effort embodies Ramadan's core values of charity and community support.
The campaign launched under a solidarity theme, highlighting the importance of community assistance during this significant religious period. Various organizations including local NGOs and charities are coordinating to distribute not only food parcels but also clothing and other essentials to vulnerable households across Algeria.
National television has promoted the initiative, emphasizing its goal to reach as many families in need as possible, ensuring they can participate in the spiritual and communal aspects of Ramadan despite economic challenges. The director-general of Algerian public television extended Ramadan greetings while highlighting how such initiatives strengthen community bonds.
Beyond providing immediate relief, the campaign aims to foster long-term solidarity and sustainable approaches to poverty alleviation. It encourages all sectors of Algerian society to contribute, whether through volunteering time, donating food items, or providing financial support.
The response has been enthusiastic, with many citizens expressing eagerness to participate. Local businesses have joined forces with charitable organizations, demonstrating how corporate social responsibility can complement community support systems.
Government officials have praised these efforts while encouraging broader public engagement.
