Beijing hosts World Humanoid Robot Games
Beijing is currently hosting the second World Humanoid Robot Games, an international competition showcasing advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence. The event, running from August 22 to 26, has drawn over 2,000 robots and teams from 16 countries. These games feature 51 events, including sports and scenario-based challenges.Athletic competitions test robots' mobility in disciplines such as football, athletics, dance, and weightlifting. Some athletic events are fully autonomous, requiring robots to perform. The games have already seen robots break human world records. One humanoid completed the 100-meter sprint in 9.39 seconds, surpassing Usain Bolt's record. Another robot achieved a high jump of 2.88 meters, exceeding Javier Sotomayor's human record.Scenario-based challenges push robotic functionality in real-world environments, including household services, industrial tasks, firefighting, and rescue operations. While human operators are permitted in some events, autonomous performance is often rewarded, underscoring the drive for independent robotic capabilities.The Games serve as a platform for companies, institutions, and teams to demonstrate technologies and compete in practical applications.
