Protests erupt in Jordan against Gaza resettlement plan

Protesters gathered in Amman to show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and reject a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump for the United States to take over Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere.
Trump has called for Egypt and Jordan to take in resettled Palestinians from Gaza, a suggestion they both rejected.
Arab states have pledged to work on a post-war plan for the Gaza Strip's reconstruction to counter Trump's proposal to redevelop the enclave as an international beach resort after resettling its Palestinian inhabitants.
In recent weeks, Jordan has witnessed widespread protests across its cities and regions, with citizens expressing strong opposition to any plans that might lead to the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.
Protests under the slogan "All of us in Jordan against displacement" have been held in various parts of the country, including the capital, Amman. These rallies reflect a unified stance among citizens, political parties, and tribal groups against any attempts to displace Palestinians. The Jordanian government has consistently expressed its firm opposition to such plans, emphasizing that Jordan is not a substitute for Palestine.
The protests are further fueled by international proposals suggesting the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza to Jordan. King Abdullah of Jordan has raised concerns about such plans, viewing them as a threat to the nation's identity and stability. The king has emphasized that Jordan considers these proposals a matter of existential importance, not merely economic or security concerns.
Additionally, during a meeting with President Trump, King Abdullah expressed Jordan's rejection of any plans that would result in the displacement of Palestinians into Jordanian territory. He emphasized that such actions would be considered a red line for the Kingdom.
