Iran names Rezaei as military adviser

Iran’s supreme leader has named former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohsen Rezaei as a military adviser, state media reported. Rezaei, a veteran of the Iran–Iraq war and a former vice president and senior adviser on key councils, returns to a central security role as Tehran faces heightened tensions with the United States and Israel.

In recent televised remarks he demanded U.S. forces leave the Persian Gulf, warned the Strait of Hormuz would be closed to shipping, and said no American warship would be allowed into the Persian Gulf.

His appointment is seen by analysts as an effort to strengthen strategic planning and interservice coordination amid intensified strikes that have targeted Iranian infrastructure and military sites.

Iranian officials have warned of retaliation and signaled readiness for further escalation, while Rezaei’s elevated advisory role underscores Tehran’s reliance on experienced commanders to navigate the ongoing confrontation and manage responses to continued military pressure.
