Lagos hosts Africa's premier Comic Convention
The Lagos Comic Convention, Africa's premier pop culture event, marked its 15th edition on September 12, 2026, at Lagos' Landmark Event Centre. It gathered thousands of enthusiasts, creators, and professionals for an immersive celebration of comics, animation, gaming, film, literature, and African storytelling. The event, themed "Where Are the Superheroes?", highlighted the potential within the continent's evolving creative sectors.Attendees enjoyed a range of activities, including panel sessions and masterclasses on character creation and digital communication. Cosplay competitions and gaming tournaments drew crowds. The floor featured exhibitions of African comics, graphic novels, and animation projects, with film screenings promoting indigenous narratives and emerging talent. The Creative Campus hosted a cartooning workshop, offering practical skills in drawing and caption writing.Since its inception in 2012, the Lagos Comic Convention has grown from a modest gathering of 300 attendees to Africa's largest pop culture event, attracting thousands. It has been instrumental in fostering local talent, driving economic growth, and creating job opportunities within Nigeria's creative industry. The convention provides invaluable networking opportunities, enabling aspiring and established creators to connect with publishers, artists, writers, and fans, nurturing collaboration and innovation.
