In a historic moment for UAE's space program, the MBZ-SAT, the region's most advanced Earth observation satellite, was successfully launched into space, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The launch occurred at 11:09 PM UAE time and was witnessed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum from MBRSC's Mission Control Centre.

Named in honor of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this 750-kg satellite represents a significant technological advancement in the UAE's space capabilities. Measuring 3m x 5m, the MBZ-SAT features a high-resolution imaging system, advanced data transmission capabilities, and an electric jet propulsion system.

The satellite's enhanced capabilities include double the imaging precision of previous models and a tenfold increase in image generation capacity. Its innovative scheduling system can deliver processed images within two hours of capture, supporting various applications including environmental monitoring, infrastructure management, and disaster relief.

The project has significantly contributed to UAE's economic growth through extensive collaboration with local industries. Notable is the domestic manufacturing achievement, with UAE companies producing 90% of the satellite's mechanical structures and a substantial portion of its electronic components. Key contributors include Strata, EPI, Rockford Xellerix, Halcon, Falcon, and EGA.

Project Manager Amer AlSayegh AlGhaferi highlighted the collaborative achievement of the Emirati team and their successful partnership with local industry.

The satellite will be operated from the Mission Control Centre at MBRSC, where specialized teams will manage operations and analyze data transmitted to Earth.
